Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) in Miami, FL
Stare down older age with the same confidence and energy of your youth. While the past years might leave the area around your eyes looking a bit dull or tired, it doesn’t quite fit the vibrant spirit you still love about yourself. Eyelid surgery targets sagging skin and puffiness to renew the look of your eyes and replace a drowsy, tired look with a stunning and youthful gaze.
What is blepharoplasty?
With age, the skin of your upper and lower eyelids can change, resulting in an older, drowsy, or saddened appearance of the eyes. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, targets sagging and drooping of the upper eyelid skin, as well as puffiness of the lower eyelid area.
Depending on your unique condition and goal outcome, Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini will recommend either upper, lower, or a combination of both eyelid surgeries to completely revitalize the look of your eyes. Upper eyelid surgery is performed by reducing excess skin that is causing the eyelid to droop or sag further downward than normal. Lower eyelid surgery removes both excess skin and fatty tissue that causes a puffiness or “bags” beneath the eyes.
Am I a good candidate for eyelid surgery?
Eyelid surgery can help women and men who are unhappy with age-related concerns with their eyelids, such as:
- Drooping or sagging of the upper eyelid
- Lines and wrinkles on the eyelids
- Puffiness or permanent “bags” beneath the eyes
- Dark circles around the eyes
If you are concerned mostly about the appearance of dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles that form due to repeated expressions) such as frown lines or crow’s feet, Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini may instead recommend an injectable treatment such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, or any other FDA approved toxins.
Eyelid surgery can also help with a congenital condition known as ptosis, which causes one or both eyelids to droop downward above the eyes. In some cases, eyelid surgery may be necessary to help alleviate vision obstruction caused by drooping of the upper eyelids.
What to expect during your eyelid surgery recovery
Your recovery following eyelid surgery will vary based on the specific steps of your procedure. Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini will typically perform upper eyelid surgery in-office under a local anesthetic, whereas lower eyelid surgery will likely be performed using general anesthesia at our accredited office-based surgery center.
Immediately after your procedure, some bruising and swelling around your eyes is to be expected. You will experience mild soreness and tenderness near the treated areas, and will need to rest with your head at an elevated position to help reduce swelling. Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini will provide you with her personal cell number should you have any questions or concerns during recovery.
Most patients are able to resume work and other normal activity within just 7 days of their eyelid surgery. Before you know it, you’ll be out enjoying life and confidently snapping selfies with a naturally refreshed look.
