Combination Cosmetic Surgery Miami – Video Transcription
Dr. Karlinsky:
Hi, guys. Dr. Kalinsky here. I’m a cosmetic surgeon. I practice in Miami, Florida, and I am going to talk to you about the combination procedures in this video. If you are interested in any particular procedure, you can watch the separate videos. And in this particular video, I just wanted to briefly touch on the fact that, very often, we do combination procedures.
There’s nothing wrong with doing a combination procedure, but one of the things that I always remind my patients is that you have to be very smart and very conservative about what combination procedures you’re doing. Everything depends on the patient, depends on your age, your health status, depends on your BMI, medications that you take, because remember, you cannot do everything in one shot. The more complex the operation, the more procedures you try to squeeze in, the higher the potential risks for complications. And when it comes to aesthetic surgery, you want to keep that in mind because you do not want to put yourself in harm’s way and have a difficult recovery, or God forbid, have a bad complication, which then prevents you from being able to go back to work, from being able to take care of your family because of a cosmetic operation. It just does not… It’s not justifiable.
So I’m always able to advise my patient what is okay, what is not okay, but I do want you to keep these things in mind because, for example, not infrequently, I get a request to do a brachioplasty, full abdominoplasty. Remember, there’s a big incision on your belly, there are big incisions on your arms. If you have any kind of healing problems, if things start opening up, not only do you have difficulty moving around, you’re tight, you’re uncomfortable in your abdomen, but now also your arms are not doing so well. It’s a really bad combination. So keep that in the back of your mind. What is an okay combination? So I really never do a tummy tuck and a brachioplasty together. It’s just not a good combo.
Or for example, sometimes patients want to do a thigh lift and a tummy tuck and something else, also a very bad combination. Remember, a thigh lift is a difficult surgery to recover from. And in general, I always tell my patients a thigh lift has to be done as a separate procedure. Do not combine them with anything else because it’s difficult to sit, it’s difficult to lay, it’s tight, it’s uncomfortable. Inevitably, very frequently, patients will have little separations just because of the nature of the location of the incision because it just can be a moist environment with a lot of sweating. So thigh lift, reserve that as a separate thing if you need a thigh lift.
Now, sometimes patients talk about the triple combo, doing lipo, BBL, tummy tuck, breast surgery. I do them sometimes, but I’m very selective because if someone has a higher BMI or any kind of comorbidities, remember, it’s not a good idea. The risks are just too high and you should not try to squeeze everything in at the same time. I typically keep my patients on the table for no longer than four to five hours max. If I know that I cannot fit your operation within that five-hour window, it has to be separated because we know statistically that any surgery that exceeds four hours and above, the risks for potential complications from an operation or anesthesia related complications start to go up exponentially.
Remember, cosmetic surgery is not a need. It’s a want. And the idea is that when you have an operation, you address an area in your body that has been bothering you for a long time. You want to have a quick recovery, an easy recovery, get back to your normal life and enjoy your new body, your new confidence. The last thing you want is to get yourself into trouble, deal with a major complication because you were trying to get everything done in one shot. It’s just not worth it. When it comes to cosmetic surgery, safety is always number one priority. Your happiness with the result always takes the second priority. Safety is always number one.
I hope this helps in your decision making. Thank you so much for watching.
